WEEK 1,

Hello M4,

They are all connected!
This term we shall memorize a two poems as a class. The theme of both poems is, "All that glitters is not gold." This is a well-known and wise saying that means not everything that looks attractive is actually so. Sometimes things/people/places appear very beautiful on the outside, but once you look closely you realize, "Oh!That place/person/thing is not beautiful at all!"

Therefore, we should not judge a book by the cover. We have to know and examine people/things/places well before we can decide whether or not they are really gold!

Poem 1: "All That Glisters" by William Shakespeare (Merchant of Venice)

All that glisters is not gold;
Often have you heard that told:
Many a man his life hath sold

But my outside to behold:

Gilded tombs do worms enfold.

Had you been as wise as bold,

Young in limbs, in judgement old

Your answer had not been inscroll'd

Fare you well, your suit is cold.

Poem 2: "All that is Gold does not Glitter" by J.R.R Tolkien

    All that is gold does not glitter,
    Not all those who wander are lost;
    The old that is strong does not wither,
    Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
    From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
    A light from the shadows shall spring;
    Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
    The crownless again shall be king.
